OPERATING ROOM (OR) REGISTERED NURSE

Job Summary

Provides comprehensive patient care in the operating and recovery room setting.

  • Documents patient assessment and completes same based on standard requirements.
  • Evaluates and modifies the plan of care based on observable responses of a patient and attainment of patient outcomes as evidenced by documentation; re-evaluates multidisciplinary plan of care each shift.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of medication administered to patient each shift.
  • Demonstrates ability to carry out medical orders as directed after carefully considering implications of appropriateness for patient and relationship to current therapy.
  • Responds effectively to crisis situations and takes preventative steps with respect to patient deterioration by early intervention.
  • Checks all operating rooms to ensure that all supplies are in place, equipment such as bovie, suction machines, and overhead lights are all working in the event of an emergency.
  • Controls all D.D.As on their shift. Orders, collects, and dispenses them ensuring that the D.D.A logbook is correct and all signatures are in place
  • Ensures that the patient is properly identified pre-operatively; the right side for surgery is properly identified by the patient or Guardian and documented on the consent form; and the Pre-OP checklist is completed.
  • Performs and documents initial physiological and psychological needs assessment on all patients assigned to his/her care as per policy.
  • Demonstrates commitment to excellent patient care.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform in emergency situations.

Qualification/ Education

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing from an accredited University
  • 2 years plus experience in nursing
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in OR preferred

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advance Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

Licensure

  • Currently Registered with Bahamas Nursing Council
