PHARMACIST

Job Summary

Responsible for working collaboratively and directly with the multidisciplinary health care team focusing on critical care medicine, intermediate care, supportive care, surgery, and collaborating with others. Provide patient-centric pharmaceutical care to promote wellness, maintain current health, and/or intervene in critical care. Promotes the safe and effective use of medications by consulting with other health care professionals concerning complex problems and instructs patients and families on their medications.

Essential Functions

  • Provide clinical pharmacy services to improve the patients’ quality of life and outcomes, by applying knowledge of critical care medications, fluids and electrolytes, anesthetics, and others in drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination
  • Participate and assist in the coordination of the administration of critical care therapies, supportive care, anesthetics, and narrow therapeutic index drugs
  • Provide specialized pharmaceutical services to anesthesia/ OR and recovery room units to improve drug usage and therapeutic outcomes that may include advising prescribers on issues concerning drug therapy dosing, inherent toxicity, and side effects
  • Promote and educate staff on the appropriate use of critical care drugs, calculations of flow rates and unusual dosing, anesthesia drugs, and other appropriate drugs

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelors of Pharmacy. Graduated from an accredited school of Pharmacy accepted by NAECOB/ the Bahamas Pharmacy Council
  • Doctor of Pharmacy: minimum of 1-2 years in hospital pharmacy experience
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy: minimum 5-7 years hospital pharmacy experience
  • Residency completion (PGY 1 or 2) or Board of Pharmacy (BCP) Specialty in Critical Care Medicine, Pharmacotherapy, or any other appropriate training is preferred

Professional Requirements

  •  License and registration from the Bahamas Pharmacy Council
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
  • Maintain professional attire
  • Complete continuing education/training requirements
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled
  • Wear identification while on duty
  • Represent the organization positively and professionally at all times
  • Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical clinical practices
  • Communicate the mission, vision, and values of the organization
  • Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities
